I am delighted and honoured to have been elected as your Devon County Councillor for Tiverton West on Thursday 1st May.
This result is down to months of hard work from me and the fantastic local Liberal Democrat team – knocking on doors, listening to residents, and delivering our message across the division. I’m grateful to everyone who helped make it happen.
The picture across Devon
Sixty seats in 58 council divisions were up for election across Devon – two divisions, Exmouth and Broadclyst, each have two elected councillors.
The results marked a dramatic shift:
Liberal Democrats: 27 seats (the most of any party)
Reform UK: 18 seats
Conservative Party: 7 seats
Green Party: 6 seats
Independents: 2 seats
Labour Party: 0 seats
The Conservatives, who previously held overall control of Devon County Council, were reduced to just seven councillors. While the Liberal Democrats fell short of the 31 seats needed for overall control, we are now the largest group on the council and residents have sent a clear message that they want change. We will form an administration and seek to turn around the years of weak management and lack of investment that has blighted our county.
What happens next
I am proud to now represent Tiverton West and I will work hard for our community on the issues that matter most – highways and transport, education and schools, planning, housing, and local services.
